The Coursera Affiliate Program allows you to earn commissions by promoting online courses from universities and brands like Google, IBM, and Yale.

The idea sounds simple.

Share affiliate links, recommend courses, and get paid when someone signs up.

But how realistic is this for someone starting from scratch?

Coursera offers thousands of courses across business, tech, AI, health care, and more.

Affiliates must apply through the Impact network, where they get access to tracking links and commission reporting.

While Coursera advertises commissions as high as 45 percent, actual earnings depend on what the customer buys, and many lower priced subscriptions pay very small amounts.

User feedback online is mixed.

People with existing audiences on YouTube, blogs, or social media say the program can work if traffic is already in place.

Beginners often report confusion after approval, difficulty getting sales, and issues with tracking or short cookie windows that prevent commissions from being credited.

Another issue is ownership.
You do not own the courses, the platform, or the traffic source.

If you stop posting content, income stops immediately. There is no long term asset being built in the background, and success depends entirely on constant content creation and audience growth.

Is the Coursera Affiliate Program legit?

It is a real affiliate program, but the low commissions, reliance on traffic, and lack of ownership make it difficult for beginners to build stable long term income.
