Detransitioners in this context refers to folks who may begin a medical transition and then choose to cease the therapy. Most likely this is someone who has undergone hormone replacement therapy and then chooses to stop it.

Disclaimer: I am not going back into the closet or detransitioning, this reel is purely for illustrating the complex issue of detransitioners in the terrible format of reels.

Someone may choose to detransition for a variety of reasons, ranging from health complications to no longer feeling like the results that transitioning gave them match their gender expression. Maybe someone realised they just aren't trans, or that they are now no longer trans - both of which is possible and ok. In some cases folks detransition from a place of regret, fear and self-loathing.

All of these reasons and more exist. But that's not what folks are hearing for the most part. If they were I wouldn't be making this reel.

For the most part folks tend to believe that detransitioners are a proof that transgender folks are "faking it" or that the healthcare being provided is inefficient and this is the result of far too affirmative a healthcare system for trans/enby folks.

The number one reason for detransitioners as stated by themselves repeatedly is because of the mental health concerns caused by how suddenly now behaves with you now that they see you as trans.

The people that laugh out loud at the sight of you, the mother's that grab their child's arm and crossover to the other side of the street, the horrified looks on people's face filled with fear or those that are filled with hate. Even children on the street passing me by clocking me out loud.

I see them all and I have to choose how to process them all. And through it all remember just how beautiful and affirmed transitioning is making me feel.

Understandably this takes a massive toll on one's mental health. For example I love wearing makeup! I love creating looks, but now I also look at it as a necessity. An armour with the awareness that the kind of stares I get with and without makeup are significantly different even if the number of stares remains just about the same!

‪@PhilosophyTube‬ stated that in the UK about 1% of medical transitioners, de-transitioned! Which is the same as saying it has a 99% success rate. So many surgical procedures can't claim the same.
