This is a recording of our educational webinar "Foraging for mushrooms on the SHT" from April 19, 2023.

The thing about hiking is you spend a lot of time looking at your feet. (This applies to backpacking and trail running too). The Superior Hiking Trail is famous for its amazing vistas yet we risk injury if we take our eyes off the tread while in motion thanks to the (also famous) rocks and roots. Thankfully, the Trail has a lot of fascinating fungi at our feet!

In this webinar, we learn to how to identify some common mushrooms on the Trail — both edible and toxic — how to harvest sustainably, follow rules related to foraging on public land, and more.

About the presenter: Ariel Bonkoski is the co-founder of the Lake Superior Mycological Society and owner of Ariel’s Mushroom Co. She has worked as a foray leader and mushroom identifier for the North American Mycological Association, teaches mushroom identification classes across the Midwest, and frequently forages on the SHT.
