Описание к видео 2018 Gibson Flying V Custom parts guitar

Here is some supplemental information to the video. It is my goal this year to learn how to edit videos so I can film a series of build steps in sequence. It would have been fun to do so on this assembly. I have my rosewood/walnut neck through telecaster build started (I glued the neck up about 3 years ago) and I really want to film it when the time comes (probably in fall when my workshop cools down from the summer heat). I realized I left a lot out of this video because I didn't want to make it an hour long. The weight of the guitar is one of the nicest things about a flying v. This one weighs 6.2 lbs. The only guitar I could find online with the same specifications (paying attention to things I could see in the pictures) was a 2018 Custom Shop model so I am guessing that’s what the husk is from. The cavities looked like they were media blasted with something very light (my guess was baking soda from my days doing high end furniture repairs). I didn’t do much sanding (whoever prepped it did a pretty good job) because I was expecting it to be a complete “fail” and since I didn’t have too much money in it I wasn’t worried. I wanted it to come out like my 50’s tribute SG (color, texture, feel, etc.) and surprisingly it is a nearly perfect match. It’s finished with lacquer and it will be a few months before I can comfortably wet sand and buff it. The neck had no fret nibs and the frets looked fresh. The long neck tenon was filled in (from the end of the tenon to the back of the pickup cavity) with what looked like wood filler (yellowish powdery substance). The truss rod was so tight the neck had about a 1/4" back-bow. I thought the neck was no good, but I backed off the truss rod nut (about 3 full turns) and checked it an hour later and it was straight as could be. It goes to show that you can crank down on a truss rod pretty hard and not break it, or the neck. With the string tension on (9 – 42 gauge) I only had to make a slight adjustment to get it where I wanted. I am going to step up to 10 gauge strings when I change them out. We’ll see how it holds up over time. I could adjust the nut and bridge a little, but I like the way it feels so I am leaving it alone for now. If I replace the nut with bone, I’ll re-adjust everything. The hardware it came with (thrown in a box) was a mishmash of what looked like leftover pats and no pickups so I started from scratch with every single piece including controls, wiring, pickups, pickguard, truss rod cover, tuners, etc. All the holes (except a few small ones I had to fill and re-drill) lined perfectly with the Gibson parts I had or bought. The bridge ground wire was intact and I used shielding paint in the cavities and then cleared them with the sealer and red tinted clear to achieve the transparent finish. When I finished it, I tested for conductivity (with a probe through the clear and sealer in the cavities) and all was good. Hope you all have a GREAT Day!!
