Epic Spring Kings!

Jarod grew up an avid outdoorsmen and now works at Yakima Bait doing R&D among many other official duties. This video is filmed at the mouth of the Wind River in Washington on the mighty Columbia River.

Every Spring Chinook salmon begin their migration from the Pacific Ocean to their natal spawning grounds in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northward. The early Chinook are called “Springers” the Summer Chinook are called “Summers” and the Fall fish are called “Fall Chinook.” They all spawn in the Fall. Historically some of the salmon needed to get over falls and needed the early hi-water of Spring-runoff to make the journey.

We hooked into 13 fish, which is phenomenal for Springer fishing, and some of came unhooked right at the boat. We landed 5 hatchery fish.
