🏳️‍🌈 #TogetherOutWest - Denver 2030 Bid Concludes
A three-year journey has come to an end.

We’ve walked this path together — with our supporters, our believers, and our community. When we first launched our bid to host the Gay Games XIII in Denver, it began as a way to showcase LGBTQ+ sport and culture on a global stage. But what it became was so much more — it became a movement.

It became a story of hope and belonging, a statement that a city like ours — a city that embraces diversity, love, and acceptance — can open its arms to the world. It showed that even in a time when our nation feels divided and caught in administrative and political challenges, at the very heart of this country there is a state, a city that can offer safety, security, and hope. A city ready to welcome teams, groups, and individuals from around the world — to gather together in one beautiful destination, surrounded and protected by the Rocky Mountains.

From 25+ cities across five continents expressing interest, down to seven, then three, then the final two — we stood as the only U.S. city in the running.

We brought a plan that was detailed, thoughtful, inspired — driven by community, for community. We faced the hard issues. We believed in hope. We addressed every question and challenge with honesty, creativity, and care: from infrastructure to accessibility, from culture to legacy. The process was long, detailed, and deeply personal. Our team poured everything into two comprehensive bid books — a true blueprint of who Denver is and why we’re ready to host the world. We mapped courses, secured venues, and built thoughtful plans for safety, security, and communication.

This summer, we had the privilege of sharing that vision with the Gay Games site inspectors. What they saw wasn’t just infrastructure — they saw heart. From Governor Polis and Mayor Johnston to our incredible drag performers and the spirited Cheer Colorado, everyone showed up with love and pride. In Arvada, they were greeted with rainbow walkways and disco balls in the trees — a snapshot of how our region celebrates with color and community. And when we arrived in Valencia, we carried every ounce of that love and support with us — sharing a story that reflected the very best of who we are and what Denver stands for.

Our amazing board and extended team: we started as a small group of strangers and acquaintances, but quickly became a team — athletes, artists, volunteers, allies, community leaders — each of us bringing something special. Different strengths, different voices, different ways of showing up. But all driven by the same thing: heart and passion. What we learned through all of our events is that love is big and beautiful — and meant to be lived, not feared. We created spaces filled with joy, where people could come together to talk, to connect, to dance, to sing, and to hold space for one another. That’s where the real magic happened.

To the Federation of Gay Games community and family: thank you for the opportunity — for giving us a global stage and an arena to showcase our beautiful state and the incredible people who call it home. Out of this process, leaders emerged, connections deepened, and our purpose became clearer. And while we may not have received the host designation, make no mistake — we moved mountains. We built friendships and partnerships. We united our community in ways we hadn’t before. We showed ourselves, and the world, what Denver is capable of. And all of that came from the values and inspiration of the Gay Games. We brought the Participation of our community, the Inclusion of everyone, and our Personal Best. Through this process, we built a program of belonging — and for that, we are genuinely thankful.

To our global supporters, local volunteers, sponsors, spouses, friends, and families — thank you. You were our fuel. You were our heartbeat. Your stories, your presence, your belief made this bid real. We may not be the host city for 2030, but Denver remains a home for LGBTQ+ sport, culture, and celebration.

This journey isn’t over. The momentum is alive and well. We’re already dreaming about what’s next. Because everything is brighter when we move together — Together Out West.

With gratitude,
The Board of Gay Games Denver 2030

Sending our continued congratulations to Perth, Australia, on being named the 2030 Gay Games XIII presumptive host city.

Mountains of gratitude to Visit Denver, Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Mike Johnston, supportive elected officials, partnering municipalities, Founders Club, generous donors, endorsing sport and culture personalities and organizations, our incredible volunteers, and all the many supporters worldwide who believed in our vision.
