In 2015, the international community agreed on the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The first aims to limit global warming to 1.5°Celsius. The second aims to find solutions to pursue the well-being of all people in all countries equally, now and in the future. 

With these two crucial but highly complex agendas on the table, world decision-makers carry a great responsibility: to fulfil both agendas, and to not undermine either one of them. This is a very difficult task.

The project ClimEQ analyses why sometimes countries succeed in this task, and why sometimes they don't. In other words: it analyses conditions for policy coherence between climate change, reducing inequality and other goals of the 2030 Agenda.

About the project:

ClimEQ is a project by the Stockholm Environment Institute, the German Institute of Development and Sustainability, the Linköping University and Utrecht University. The project aims to advance policy coherence research by focusing on the causes of policy incoherence and how it affects achievements of global climate and sustainable development goals, especially ambitious climate action and reducing inequality.
