Hy-Slicer Video Tutorial Part 2


Welcome back to Part 2 of the Hy-Slicer Video Tutorial Series.

Galatra here, once again, is bringing in another Hy-Slicer video tutorial where we left off from Part I were this is explaining the Hy-Slicer features: FX Chain and Groove Editor.



Fx Chain:


3 Band EQ - Basic 3-band EQ standard where it arranges low, mid, and high freq, the 3 freq knobs arranges the level of bands per knob freq (just like the Q knob).



Compressor - Arranges the loudness of the sample track based on threshold, ratio, and softness (attack and release), making the sample have enough headroom for the sample mix.



Lo-Fi - Creates various low fidelity effects of the sample. Has 4 modes. Mode 1 represent a low white noise phase. Mode 2 represents normal white noise. Mode 3 represents a Grunge, Granular-type effect (like Terminator). Mode 4 represents higher white noises (like the snowy effects on TV screen).


Drive - Increase/Decrease the fatness of the sample sound.



Comb - A filter that creates constructive or destructive interference. Has two wave modes: Sin (Sine) and Tri (Triangle). Underneath the depth knob is the stereo width option. Next to the feedback knob is the -/+ switch, allows to push or pull the sample inward or outward. Rate knob changes the comb filter speed from slow to fast, depth knob arranges the deepness of the comb filter, delay affects comb timing, and FB knob changes the intensity of the comb filtering.


Delay - Creates echo-like effects based on the sample's timing. Can be set to Milliseconds or beat ratios. Switching the Time L & R knobs to the left will create faster/shorter echo timing, turning it to the right will create a longer/slower timing. FB knob increases delay intensity.


Reverb - Makes samples have a plate- or hall-like effect. Center square line images represents a long tunnel image effect (much like the Twilight Zone). Pre knob arranges the pre-delay of the reverb. Decay knob creates how long the reverb will take effect. HiDamp knob increase or decreases the dampness of the reverb.


The order of the FX chain can be arranged based on the producer's liking, just like Serum.


Groove Editor:

An editor that can change the randomizing steps of each sliced beats per Step-Sequencing pattern placed on a Grid-like Ruler. Rnd button sets the randomized sequence of the values applied to the Groove Editor ruler. Button knobs changes the timing shift of each sliced beat values. The percentage value button, next to the Rnd button, assigns the probability of selecting the random patterns in any order and can be changed from 0% - 100%. Can be saved by making own folder under Hy-Groove and name it whatever file. Can also import midi file as a groove patterns.



Both of these features are effective when using the Hy-Slicer Step Sequencer when playing up to 16 beat slices.



IMHO, these are useful when playing live mode events.
