Arthur Amiotte, an artist, independent scholar and educator, was born on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. His artistic work is an expression of Lakól wicóh'an washtélaka -- the love of Lakota tradition—and is founded in the philosophy, rituals and oral history of his people. Amiotte's primary medium is collage, and among other materials, he often uses historical photographs of his own family.
