Today's Catholic Mass Readings and Gospel Reflection - Friday, January 23, 2026
Friday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Reading 1, Samuel 24:3-21
Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 57:2, 3-4, 6, 11
Gospel, Mark 3:13-19
In today’s Gospel, Jesus goes up the mountain and calls to Himself those whom He desired, and they come to Him. He appoints the Twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, with authority to drive out demons.
This passage reveals the heart of discipleship: before being sent on mission, the apostles are first called to remain close to Jesus. Their authority flows from relationship—being with the Lord, listening to Him, and learning from His way of love.
As we reflect on this Gospel, we are reminded that every Christian vocation begins with a personal call from Christ. He chooses us not because we are perfect, but because He loves us and desires to work through us.
✨ Reflect, pray, and listen to Christ’s call
