Описание к видео Health at Every Size

Health at Every Size (HAES) is a weight inclusive approach designed to help us advance social justice and create an inclusive and respectful community. HAES challenges the societal norm of targeting weight loss as the first approach to wellbeing. The framework includes the acceptance of:

✨Natural diversity in body shape and size
✨Ineffectiveness and dangers of dieting for weight loss
✨Importance of relaxed eating in response to internal body cues
✨Critical contribution of social, emotional, spiritual and physical factors to health and happiness

HAES focuses on quality of life and health behaviours instead of the number on the scales, BMI or body fat percentage. A ‘healthy weight’ is defined as the weight at which a person settles as they move toward a more fulfilling and meaningful lifestyle. Including, but not limited to:
😋Eating according to internal signals of hunger and fullness
🏃🏻‍♂‍Participating in reasonable and sustainable levels of physical activity

A common misconception in society can often be that obesity is simple and is solely the fault of the individual. However this fails to incorporate the evidenced complexity of obesity, highlighted by the Foresight report (2007) which identified over 100 different biological, psychological, social and environmental factors contributing to obesity.

Weight stigma is the social and devaluation that accrues to those who do not comply with prevailing social norms of adequate body weight & shape. People with obesity are often stereotyped as lazy, uneducated, binge eaters or lacking self-discipline. This weight-related stigma can exclude people from leading what could be considered ‘normal’ life and contribute to poor body image and low self-esteem. It has even been linked to greater levels of cortisol, depression, anxiety and increased likelihood of obesity. Where possible we should aim to be positive and understanding, supportive, collaborative and environmentally aware.
