The size of geospatial-temporal data has been surging tremendously, driven by the emergence of IoT, drones, connected cars, cube satellites etc. These data when used intelligently provide valuable insights for use cases requiring knowledge of "what-when-and where" in several domains and especially in natural resource exploration and management. Some of the topics that will be covered in this two-part series include geospatial data, data volumes and scale, the need for "next generation" GIS systems as an introduction to geospatiotemporal data from a perspective scalable geoinformation systems. Topics on querying geospatial databases will be covered demonstratively using PAIRS which is a scalable geoinformation system. The last part will be a practical demonstration of how to perform basic filtering and aggregation analytics, ending off with advanced analytical examples on classification and calculation of soil moisture.
