Описание к видео Refugee Camps In Focus: Session 1 - Forced Migration and The Arts

What is happening around art in refugee camps? And why is art important? Responding to these and related questions are:
● Subthiga Mathanamohan, a visual artist, researcher, and photographer based in India, researching Sri Lankan refugees who have experienced forced migration. Her work closely intertwines with visual narratives of the Sri Lankan refugee communities living in various camps in Tamil Nadu,
● Mudadi Saidi, a Congolese writer, art facilitator and award winning artist who has been living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya for more than 10 of his 29 years of age. In 2019, Saidi started ART YETU (OUR ART), a project that creates space for the young people living in the camp to learn visual art skills and become self-reliant,
● Jean Bertrand Kamoso, a filmmaker and the Executive Director of Photofilm for Change, an arts based organisation focusing on media and performing arts in Kakuma Refugee Camp where he lives, and
● Rey Bulambo, a visual artist living in Kakuma Refugee Camp.

Subthiga Mathanamohan, Mudadi Saidi, Jean Bertrand Kamoso, and Rey Bulambo were speaking at "Refugee Camps In Focus", which was held online on 28 September 2023 as part of Forced Migration and The Arts*, an online series that brings together artists, people with lived experience of forced migration, academics and activists for conversation on the work they are doing and how this speaks to questions around forced migration.
