Digital sales generate 88% of music revenue

I was actually surprised this number isn’t higher, but I guess there are still a bunch of old people buying the last of the CD’s and Albums that are still being sold, probably mostly due to the fact that they can’t figure out or understand the whole digital download thing.

That being said I am finding that we are sort of in a digital music battle of sorts, so many of the national providers are wanting you to use there streaming service that they incorporate the downloadability of the files directly into there service making it more difficult to separate the two from each other. I have had to help a number of older friends out who just wanted to buy a track from a favorite artist but the delivery systems like Itunes and Amazon and Spotify, want you to play the track in there system and do not make it easy for you to get the track and do what you want with it, not like the old days when no one cared and was just glad to make a dollar on something that didn’t cost them anything to make, sell, or have any of the traditional costs associated with it.

Most computers now do not even come with a DVD / CD player anymore as most software doesn’t come with a disc either, they want you to download it. I remember how weird it was to buy a PlayStation game with the traditional plastic box only to open it up and find not a CD but a sticker that gives you the license number and then you download the game to your game system.

The same can be said for the TV and the Movies we watch you buy things from Amazon and they keep track of them for you and you can access them from Amazon when ever you want, unless your internet is down and you wan to watch the movie or show offline then you find out they have left you high and dry. The same goes for Music, I stream my music from Amazon Music as it comes with my prime subscription I have. Well they have an upgraded one with over 120 Million Songs, but I find the 70 Million free songs takes care of most of my music needs, and I love it, I use it in the car while I am working or even when I go food shopping, that is unless there is a problem with the service or if there is no signal, then I am stuck without my favorite tunes.

Now all of those issues do not reflect the amount of fun and ease at which streaming my audio and video is under normal working conditions. It is also a well known fact that Digital Sales were credited as the reason for a third consecutive year o growth in the overall music industry.
In a nutshell with all the piracy and independent productions, and studio’s in people’s homes the Music Industry has been able to reduce there costs so much that they have figured out a way to maintain profitability while at the same time pretty much staying in control of the distribution channels and still being “The Man” when it comes to the Music Business
Lets not even get into how much money gets funneled back to the artist for this new sales method.
