Creating a stock item with the correct GST details is crucial for accurate inventory management, automated tax calculation during invoicing, and error-free GST return filing. This guide will walk you
Before you create a stock item, ensure you have:
1. Enabled GST: In Tally, press (Features) Enable Goods and Services Tax (GST)Set to Yes. Configure your company's GSTIN and other details here.
2. Created Units of Measure: You need to define how you measure the item (e.g., Nos, Pcs, Kgs, Ltr). Go to Gateway of Tally Create Unit
3. Optional but Recommended) Created Stock Groups: Grouping similar items (e.g., Laptops, Mobiles, Keyboards) helps in organizing inventory and applying GST rates at the group level. Go to Gateway of Tally Create Stock Group

If you sell many items with the same GST rate (e.g., all laptops are 18%), you can set the GST details at the Stock Group level instead of for each individual item.


Now, when you create a new stock item under this group, you can leave the item's GST details as As per Company Stock Group. Tally will automatically pick the tax rate from the group, saving you time and ensuring consistency.
