As a dancer I was trained to know my direction, provide the effort to get to the goal and achieve what I had wanted to achieve. This was reinforced through technique, theme based activities, competition and performance. But within all that was a passion to just dance. A desire to be able to express myself with movement and no words. I enjoyed time in the kitchen with the windows as my reflection point for working on technique alone and earphones on listening to my favorite music.
Today we often have goals in mind for achievement and outcomes measured by accomplished tasks, completed projects and activities. I was reminded however that sometimes if we are so in our heads to get to the goal, we miss the nuances of information that comes our way. We might miss the possibility of accomplishing the task a different way and with more learning opportunities and creative input. Dancers relish in those opportunities and athletes refer to this as the zone. So, as we leave the 21st hour of the 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century, I invite you to consider where your guidance and creative input can come from in your daily passion building.
