Harmony : Huawei Alternative Operating System

Описание к видео Harmony : Huawei Alternative Operating System

Huawei Harmony Mobile

March of this year the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group announced that the company is developing its own mobile operating system, in case Huawei could no longer use the Android and Windows operating system. In the meantime, several months have passed, America has not made it easy for Huawei in the meantime, although Trump announced at the end of June at the G20 Summit that it would like to ease trade restrictions.

However, this Huawei does not seem to be particularly reassuring. The development of its own OS is therefore still in full swing. According to the Chinese manufacturer, this OS is a lot faster than Android and Mac OS. Moreover, it is not only intended for smartphones , but also for other types of electronic devices such as tablets , wearables  and  computers .

In China, the operating system would already be available on some phones, as was announced earlier this month through an interview in the French magazine Le Point. The mobile operating system could be ready for launch by the end of the year for Chinese users, said Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei. The global launch could follow in the first quarter of 2020.

Huawei submitted several trademarks for its future operating system in June 2019. Consider the names HongMeng OS, HMOS (probably refers to HongMeng) and Ark OS. The latter may become the international name, while the HongMeng name is likely to be used in China itself.

After Huawei HongMeng and Ark OS now also applied for trademark for Harmony

However, Huawei Technologies had another trademark registered on 12 July 2019. This time it is about the name 'Harmony'. The trademark has been applied for at the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).

The application is categorized as Class 9, with the description; 'mobile operating systems; computer operating systems; downloadable operating system programs'.

The trademark has been filed by Forresters from Germany, Munich. This company has often acted in the name of Huawei Technologies, including the name Hong Meng , but also for the newly launched Huawei P Smart Z .

From the beginning, Huawei has indicated that it does not want to introduce its new OS as long as the company retains access to the Android and Windows operating systems. Now that the sanctions seem to be relaxed, it could well be that the Huawei OS will never be introduced.

However, that does not mean that the development and internal testing will not go ahead, after all, this trademark was also submitted after Trump announced that it wanted to relax the sanctions. The time will have to learn whether Huawei will actually compete against the popular Google Android OS. The company is well aware that it will certainly take a few more years before the App Gallery from Huawei is as complete as the App Store from Google.
