Unheard voices #4: Gallup, NM (10/12/24)

Could give up talking to someone who’s been there for all of the hard times? What if you knew they were holding you back? Is it fair to forget them after everything they’d done when you had no one else?

Maybe these are thoughts of human beings currently or having battled addictions. Most times, addictions stem from various traumas. Either escaping or coping emotions/thoughts that we cannot comprehend. The only option is to escape to a different state of mind because we feel lost. Even as a sober individual, the battle never truly stops. Bad, good, indifferent days push us to the idea of relapsing or even deleting yourself.

The epidemic of prescription drugs on Navajo land is a war in our very backyard. We ignore it everyday, we ignore these people every time we travel to border towns for our everyday needs. This video shows 3 individuals who live, breathe, and battle in their war everyday on the streets of Gallup, NM.
