Brecon Beacons four Waterfalls Trail, on the southern slops of the Fforest Fawr mountains West of Merthyr Tydfil in the Brecon Beacons Nation Park. This enchanting Walk through the Forest and the gorge of the River (Afon) Mellte is approximately 5 miles in length and best viewed in spring or autumn when the Waterfalls are in spate. Waterfalls seen are Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Y Pannwr and Sgwd Yr Eira My trusty hiking party enjoyed walking behind one of the waterfalls and had a great afternoon of fun exploring the trail which can get sketchy (slippery and with steep drop offs) you need to be careful! another highlight are the delightful stone stacks that are made by walkers and hikers through the summer months in the shallow River bed! These are washed away in the spring flood waters only to be remade again the following season. Wild Swimming is popular, but be careful! The water is cold, as one of our party found out! Yes (Skye took a swim in the plunge pool). The car park and main paths are well made and there are toilets and usually refreshments available.
