The Urayasu Sansha Festival is an annual festival jointly held by Toyouke Shrine, Kiyotaki Shrine, and Inari Shrine, the guardian shrines of three villages in the old city. In addition to five shrine mikoshi, about 80 mikoshi and floats of various sizes parade through the city.
It is always held in June of a leap year, but the last time it was held was canceled due to the global pandemic, and this year will be the first time it has been held in eight years.
In the past, the mikoshi were known as "violent mikoshi" as they would charge into private homes, and the sight of them parading through the city is very impressive. The unique chants of "Maeda, Maeda" liven up the festival.
The highlight is the "jisuri" (ground-sliding), which consists of four carrying methods: "rubbing, kneading, thrusting, throwing," and when this is done, applause and cheers erupt.
