Starting a business is hard. Our goal is to capture what it really looks like and feels like to build something from an idea. The purpose of this documentary is to understand each individual’s story. What is it like to have an idea or passion, and what does it take to build it? What were their challenges? What did they learn? What would it have meant to have support or access to networks, opportunity and community to help them along the way?

We have spent two years researching, conducting interviews, and sending out surveys to identify what gets in the way and what kind of support would truly matter.

These interviews are part of our work at SideKix HQ Inc., where we’re building an app designed to provide personalized support to people with ideas, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. We know that 70 percent of people have a business idea at some point in their lives, but 92 percent never take the first step. Why? Because of common roadblocks: fear of failure, lack of funding, lack of support, and simply not knowing where or how to start.

SideKix exists to break those barriers down.
