What was the original intention of dance? Why did our ancestors move before the concepts of "entertainment" or "fitness" or "competition" even existed?

In this video, I explore these questions through the lens of my own life. I share my earliest memories of dancing to the radio in Mussoorie at age 3, and how watching my own daughter dance today has taught me about the innate joy of the moving body.
I share the deeper philosophy behind my movement practice—a quest that began with a simple question: Why did our ancestors first dance? This inquiry took me far beyond entertainment leading me to discover Tibetan Buddhist dance traditions and, unexpectedly, my own ancestral lineage.
I also dive into the research I began during my Masters in Virginia, which led me to a profound discovery about my own history. I discuss the concept of "Ego's Last Dance" (coined by Joanna Macy), the Tibetan Tantric Guru Padmasambhava, and how the ancient dance form of Cham helped me reconnect with a lineage I had lost touch with.
