TiLi, Mizoram's inaugural private incubator, sanctioned by Startup India, was initiated by LTL Fela and Mark Lalduhsaka in late 2020. Operating as an NGO, TiLi supports startups comprehensively. Offering co-working spaces akin to WeWork and incubating entrepreneurs with services ranging from mentorship to funding, they've partnered with Zonet Cable TV for "Chengrang leh Ngenmu," Mizoram's version of Shark Tank, completing three seasons. TiLi's mission extends to educational programs like TiLi Entrepreneurial Mindset Curriculum (TEMC).
Peipung Edu-tech, founded by Huxley L Colney and Johny Lalramdina Pachuau, addresses Mizoram's low financial literacy through an innovative edtech platform, featuring Mizo-language stock trading tutorials and gamified courses.
While studying Fashion Design, R.Vanlalrinzuali launched Lêlen in 2022, aiming to address the environmental impact of fast fashion. The brand promotes Mizo culture, emphasizing eco-friendly practices with bamboo-based products and expanding to organic cotton t-shirts and handbags. Produced in Aizawl, the brand prioritizes social sustainability by employing single mothers and underprivileged women. Incubated under Mizoram University, Lêlen gained recognition when their towels were selected as gifts for the G20 Summit’s B20 conference delegates in Aizawl.
Established in 2019 with two employees, Tirh Koh Dâwla is a Mizoram-specific personal shopping assistant platform. Operating via WhatsApp, it delivers groceries, medicine, and restaurant food. Partnering with Doorbell Mizoram, it expands into home services, aiming to create an all-in-one platform for Mizo people. With 45 delivery agents, they handle 350 to 400 daily deliveries, combining offline presence and technological expertise.
Established in 2019 by P.B Lalrinfela, Tribeland Coffee Roasters collaborates with local farmers for quality coffee production. After three years of research, they launched, selling directly through their website. With 30% B2B, 5% D2C, and 65% offline sales, including their Mizoram University cafe, funded by Mizoram’s Raftaar Agribusiness Incubator, they've expanded to two cafes, generating 12 lakh rupees in revenue with 8 employees.
Lersia Play, a Mizo-exclusive OTT platform by Mapuia Chongthu, operates on a unique pay-per-view model. A joint venture of Leitlang Pictures and Lailen Consulting, it offers curated content with over 100,000 downloads since its 2021 launch. Featuring exclusive Leitlang Pictures' content, the platform presents a collection of 50 movies and TV shows, allowing users to pay based on their selected content and video quality.
Established in 2021 by Puipuii Hmar, Lawm from the Hills offers 100% vegan skincare products. Operating on Amazon and Aizawl offline locations, the startup focuses on effectiveness, affordability, and collaboration with tribal farmers. With a small team of 3 full-time and one part-time employee, Lawm from the Hills strategically opts for a limited product range to ensure quality, formulation, and pricing align with Mizo market preferences, prioritizing a meticulous approach over rapid expansion.
Famcart, launched in November 2022 by Lalnunpuia and Dr. Francis Lalhmangaiha, aims to establish a fresh vegetable supply chain in Mizoram, addressing challenges in the agricultural sector. Connecting local farmers directly with end customers, Famcart operates on a farm-to-fork model, offering higher margins to farmers and enhancing competitiveness in the local market. Despite operating at a loss initially, the startup exhibits positive signs with consistent monthly growth, a user base of 3500 registered users, and plans to launch an offline store.
Triket, developed by Arsi Consultancy in 2020, functions as Mizoram's Bookmyshow. Initially a B2C company, it evolved into a B2B platform, offering event organizers streamlined ticket sales and entry processes. Their first B2B event, Local Festival, took place in December 2023, emphasizing user-friendly ticket booking without the need for account creation.
Zomawii Khiangte, an Indian technology consultant, and Felipe Rodriguez, an American Product developer, moved from the United States to start Mizo Brewery, the first craft brewery in Northeast India in 2018. Unfortunately, in May 2019, Mizoram became a dry state, causing Mizo Brewery to shut down. Undeterred, they launched a new venture, Local All Natural Soda, an FMCG startup crafting carbonated beverages from Mizoram's farm-sourced ingredients.
