At this amazing meeting in Budapest, Hungary, of the IACD (International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology), I had the honor to join a stellar team of researchers and professors discussing the latest information in the battle with skin cancer. In a prior live post, I had shown all presentations. This one here is the live presentation of my topic on understanding the proper therapy of precancers.
Below is the summary of my talk. Of course I had more information to share, but I had to be mindful of the time allotted.

"Treatment of Advanced Field Cancerization," Eyal Levit and Sophia Levit.

Actinic keratosis (AK) serves as a litmus test for the health of your skin and is a powerful predictor of future skin cancers. AKs are signs of cumulative UV-induced damage and represent field cancerization—a process in which the entire area has undergone genetic changes, not just the visible lesion. A 10-year study published in Acta Dermato-Venereologica (2020) found that patients with AKs were significantly more likely to develop skin cancers within the follow-up period—8 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma, 4 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma, and 3 times more likely to develop melanoma—compared to patients without AKs. By treating the entire field, we can help reduce the risk of skin cancer and reverse visible signs of aging. In this talk, we reviewed office-based therapies, prescription treatments, supplements, and preventive strategies—discussing their risks, benefits, and how to best combine them. Evidence-based supplements covered included Polypodium leucotomos extract, nicotinamide, NMN, and vitamins D and A.
