Effective Requirements Engineering is the basis for a successful Systems Engineering process. In today's distributed product development, this includes traceable cross-company exchange of requirements specifications. The standardized format ReqIF enables the needed exchange across company and tool boundaries.

It is complemented by exchange workflows published in 2017 by the prostep ivip ReqIF workgroups in the recommendation “Comprehensive Collection of Industrial ReqIF Use Cases”. The recommendation is the result of a cooperation of OEMs, Tiers and Requirements Management System vendors. It covers the in- and export of requirements and a standardized "Stakeholder Request Clarification" (SRC) process, which controls the reconciliation between OEM (customer) and Tier (supplier) using evaluation attributes and a predefined workflow model.

Now, in 2020, the workgroups release an update of the existing recommendation including an extension of the SRC process with four new use cases: Multi-supplier (a customer exchanges a specification with multiple suppliers), Multi-Tier (supplier has sub-suppliers), Variant Management (variants of requirements) and Parallel Working on Specifications (customer sends updated specification to supplier while supplier is working with old specification).

This presentation demonstrates the updated exchange workflows with a video demonstration of the exchange between two systems and examples based on experiences of the participating OEMs and Tiers while highlighting the user benefits.
