Issue 34 - Stitch 36 - Alternating Twists

Alternating Twists stitch is worked over a 6 row repeat. For row 1, start by purling 2 stitches and then repeat, knit 3, purl 1, knit 3, purl 2, to the the end of the row.

On row 2 work the opposite, knit 2 and then repeat, purl 3, knit 1, purl 3, knit 2 to the end of the row.

For row 3, purl 2 stitches then repeat yarn to back, slip 1 purlwise, knit 2, purl 1, knit 2, slip 1 purlwise, purl 2 to the end of the row.

On row 4 work the opposite, knit 2 stitches and then repeat, yarn to front, slip 1 purlwise, purl 2, knit 1, purl 2, slip 1 purlwise, knit 2 to the end of the row.

The twists are created on row 5. Start by purling 2 stitches and then repeat this sequence - drop the slipped stitch off the needle to the front of the work and knit 2, pick up the dropped stitch with the left needle and knit it. Then purl 1, yarn back and slip the next 2 stitches, drop the following stitch off the left needle and move the two stitches on the right needle back to the left - now pick up the dropped stitch with the right needle and knit it, then knit 2, purl 2 to finish the sequence - and repeat to the end of the row.

For row 6, repeat row 2 - knit 2 and then repeat, purl 3, knit 1, purl 3, knit 2 to the end of the row.

Repeat these 6 rows to continue the pattern!
