Top 5 Tips -
When you're just starting out, try to stick to just one or two platforms. I would definitely recommend grabbing your username on all of the profiles as soon as possible, but realistically, you're not gonna have the time and you don't wanna spread yourself too thin.
If you're a wordsmith, maybe go for Twitter. Whereas if you're more into graphics or video, Instagram or TikTok will be perfect for you. Once you've chosen the platforms you want to use, you really wanna get to know those platforms as well as possible. While experimenting with different types of content is really good and can be very fruitful.
There's also a ton of research that you can draw down upon first. For example, on Twitter, you wanna be using a maximum of four hashtag. To really boost that content. Whereas on Instagram, you can use up to nine. So when planning out what kind of content you want to post, try to remember that every single post you do should add value to your audience.
No one's really gonna care what you're having for breakfast or how you're feeling at any particular time. And one really helpful way I found to structure my content is to put it into different categories. For example, you have what are called CTAs or cost to action. That's where you want your audience to do a particular thing, whether it's letting them know that you're live now or something as simple as asking them to join your discord.
The next category is what I call community surfacing. So that's when you want some kind of engagement on the post. Then after that, you have trust building, which is just showing your audience that you're a real person and you're not just there to keep pushing your identity or pushing your brand.
Finally, the last one I like to call community showcasing. For example, if a fan sends you something really cool and you wanna showcase it on social media, or if you've got an in joke in your discord that you bring into the public sphere, try to accompany every post you put out with some kind of visual, any kind of post that has a visual attached to it on any of the social media.
Videos generally do better than photos, so you really want to try and create as much video content as possible. Something you might want to consider is to take the best moments from some of your streams, edit that together, and then you always have something there that you can use to advertise your brand.
Now, this is something I think a lot of people forget about on social media, but you really wanna dedicate some time every single week to community outreach. So this could be something as simple as responding to the comments that you get on other. But realistically, what you wanna be doing is going to other influencers and commenting on their posts, or showing your support or just commenting and getting involved in the discussions in the gaming community in general.
If people start seeing you in all of these different spaces, and if you're on other influencers profiles, a lot people who follow those influencers might consider following you as well.
