How to Insert and Format Times in Microsoft Excel

Almost all of think we know how to enter time in excel. But do we? We enter time and move on and think we’ve done it correctly. But the problem arises when we use that time in calculation. We fail to make excel understand 12 hour time with am/pm. Even if we do we don’t know how do we convert time to 24 hour format in excel. Sometimes we need date and time in one cell and that become another challenge. In short, we need to understand how to enter time in excel.

Before proceeding you should understand when you excel time format is not working. If you can’t add dates, hours, minutes, Seconds, Am, Pm to your selected range or change them in Microsoft Excel or you can’t calculate the time cell properly this means you have done it wrong way.
But still we can set excel time format easily if we follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select data range where you need to enter date and time format.
Step 2: Right click and select format cells.
Step 3: Click on time and change the format according to your need.
Step 4: Click OK and done.

If you select properly you can make excel read hours, minutes and seconds. You can use time format without date in excel from here or set time format to 24 hour format.

This is how you can insert date & time in Microsoft excel and can perform complex calculations without and error.
