Scene 1: The Execution of Rivals
In Pella’s dark throne room, Alexander ascends the throne and swiftly eliminates rivals. His cousin Amyntas IV is executed, two Lyncestian princes are killed, while Alexander Lyncestes is spared. In the shadows, Olympias has Cleopatra Eurydice and her daughter burned alive. Though angered, Alexander doesn’t act. Attalus, suspected of treason, is also executed. Alexander spares his mentally unfit half-brother Arrhidaeus.
Scene 2: The Greek Revolts
After Philip’s death, Greek states like Athens, Thebes, and Thessaly revolted. Demosthenes urges resistance in Athens. As rebellion spreads, Alexander marches south swiftly. In Thessaly, he outflanks the enemy by crossing Mount Ossa. Surprised, the Thessalian army surrenders without a fight and joins him. With growing forces, Alexander advances further south.
Scene 3: Securing Greece
At Thermopylae, Alexander is declared leader of the Amphictyonic League, gaining political and military support. In Corinth, Athens sues for peace. Alexander forgives the rebels, showing both strength and diplomacy. There, he meets Diogenes, who tells him to move aside and not block his sunlight. Amused, Alexander says, “If I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes.”
Scene 4: Preparation for War
In Corinth, Greek leaders pledge loyalty to Alexander, who is named Hegemon, leader of the Greek forces against Persia. With Greece unified, news arrives of a Thracian revolt in the north. Alexander swiftly turns his focus to the Balkans, determined to crush the rebellion and secure his rear before launching his invasion of Persia.
