The Cube Escape series was Rusty Lake's first series of games, introducing the Rusty Lake world. Heavily inspired by TV series Twin Peaks, the series does not have a truly linear order, but mostly follows homicide detective Dale Vandermeer as he investigates the death of a woman and finds himself drawn into the mysterious world of Rusty Lake.

Most games in the Rusty Lake series are free to play, but some require a small fee. These games are typically longer, and delve deeper into the story of Rusty Lake.

Rusty Lake Hotel was the first premium Rusty Lake game, released between Cube Escape: The Mill and Cube Escape: Birthday. Set in the Hotel of the same name, the player must welcome five guests and help gather ingredients to prepare five dinners, making sure every one is worth dying for.

Rusty Lake: Roots is the second premium game, released between Cube Escape: Theatre and Cube Escape: The Cave. Unlike other Rusty Lake games it does does not have a single primary character, instead following the Vanderboom Family throughout their family tree, from alchemist brothers William and Aldous to Rose Vanderboom and her newly born daughter.
