If your baby spits up a lot and it affects his/her development or causes throat pain and respiratory problems, it's called gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. Watch this video to learn about symptoms, causes & remedies for acid reflux or GERD in babies.

Reflux is a normal process, and almost every baby goes through it to some extent. Acid reflux might even occur multiple times in an infant. GERD generally does not mess with the growth of a baby. As long as you see that your baby is growing healthy, reflux is not something to be worried about.

An infant with acid reflux or GER will vomit frequently. But, if you see symptoms in your baby such as irritability, improper weight gain, feeding problems, wheezing, coughing or choking, it may be a sign of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). GERD is a complication of acid reflux or GER. GER is more common than GERD in babies.

Your infant might feel very uncomfortable when suffering from GERD. If the condition persists for a longer time, talk to your pediatrician to alleviate this discomfort in your infant.
