This was an absolute disaster of a cook and it was so embarrassing. I don't know if my ego will ever quite recover from it. Now, I've never actually cooked anything on a spit roast, but I took the opportunity as I believe there is a first time for everything, and a first time for every test. Now, they were quite a few issues with the way I decided to go about cooking this lamb.
-The first issue was cooking it and gale force winds, -The second was that I decided to only use salt and pepper
The third was that I didn't use enough wood or have the lamb close enough to the coals
The fourth was wrapping it in spite of all the heating issues. I think in a way, I dug my own grave. Perhaps I should have picked a more sheltered spot to cook the lamb. Beyond this the issues it created downstream with other elements like the potatoes meant that I was in a situation of pure panic. Note to self: always ask for help when you need it, and always plan ahead. Plan a should never be the only plan.

But the further expand on the concept of potato day, potatoes are a religion in Latvia. They're growing en masse, and harvested usually around the 1st of September. In this case they're sold on, but to help with the sourcing people get together from the local community and or friends and pick and sort the potatoes together. As a result it becomes a bit of an event, and then eventually a bit of a party. It's amazing how one vegetable can bring people together in so many ways.
