Postdoctoral fellow Daekyoo Kim, studying at Case Western Reserve University, is working with Investigators at the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center of the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center to help below-the-knee amputees improve their gait and stability. Kim's research involves implanting electrical stimulators around nerves above the knee so that users can perceive sensation from their missing limb. Kim seeks to use his research to better understand the influence of sensory perception on motion and rehabilitation.

The Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center is a Department of Veterans Affairs Research Center in the Rehabilitation Research and Development Service. The Center addresses the pressing clinical needs of disabled Veterans by harnessing the most recent developments in untapped engineering and basic science disciplines, and applying them to design and disseminate new rehabilitation interventions.
