Boudha Mahankal Jatra 2082 – A Celebration of Faith, Culture & Unity
With great joy and gratitude, we announce the successful celebration of the historic Boudha Mahankal Jatra, organized by the Shree Boudhanath Area Development Committee in coordination with more than 100 local organizations. This sacred event aimed to promote religious harmony and togetherness among our diverse community.
The puja of Mahankal was beautifully performed by respected Lama, Bajracharya, and Brahmin Gurus, each following their traditional rituals, reflecting the spiritual bond between Hinduism and Buddhism.
We were honored to have the gracious presence of:
👉 Hon. Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister Hon.Badri Prasad Pandey
👉 Hon. Defense Minister Hon. Manbir Rai
Their participation and support truly added meaning to the event. We’re deeply thankful for their encouragement toward our shared cultural and spiritual values.
🙏 Special thanks to:
All the respected Lama, Bajracharya, and Brahmin Gurus
More than 100 local clubs and community organizations for their active support
Each and every devotee, youth, student, and volunteer who showed up and made it memorable
The amazing performers — from Lakhe dance to Panche Baja, Dhime, Sherpa songs, Tamba performances, Sili dance, and many more traditional acts that brought life to the streets.
And a heartfelt thanks to :
Boudha Police
Boudha Traffic Police
Boudha Tourist Police
Community Police Service Centre
Kathmandu Metropolitan Police
Your efforts made sure the event ran smoothly and safely. 🙏
The Jatra began from Mahankal Chowk, making its way through Tinchuli, Anandapur, Bhuwal Danda, Phulbari, Boudhanath Stupa, Pipalbot, Tusal, Chuchepati Pasang Lhamu Chowk, and then returned to Mahankal Chowk — with over a thousand participants from across our community.
After the sacred puja, everyone enjoyed Newari Baji (Khaja) together before the cultural procession filled the streets with music, colors, and joy.
This year's Jatra was even more special as it marks the beginning of a new tradition — following the installation of the grand Mahakala statue at Mahankal Mandir last year.
Let us keep this spirit of unity, peace, and cultural pride alive in our hearts.
King Regards,
Shree Boudhanath Area Development Committee
