Did the IRS take your refund because of your spouse’s debt? Injured Spouse relief may allow you to recover your portion of a joint tax refund by filing IRS Form 8379.

In this short video, I explain what Injured Spouse relief is, when Form 8379 applies, and how it works if your refund was offset for your spouse’s past due taxes, student loans, or other federal debts. This rule applies to married taxpayers who file jointly but are not responsible for the debt that caused the refund to be taken.
