The Big Island Of Hawai‘i is a dynamic home for many, with a variety of hazards that act as a counterbalance for the beauty — hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and many more phenomena have been recorded in modern history. Today we look back on the variety of natural disasters that have struck Hawai’i Island in the last century, and their impact on human life at the time.

Even those familiar with Big Island history will find something new and different in this dynamic mix of rare footage and restored media. Using archived video, custom maps, colorized black and white imagery, and more, we set out to show you the most significant and disruptive natural events in the last 100 years to affect Hawai’i Island. This is the most production we have put into a video, in order to remember those affected by sharing countless windows into their world.
