Описание к видео Winston Scott Cosmic Jazz Ensemble Oct 13 2019 #25

The Winston Scott Cosmic Jazz Ensemble performed for the Space Coast Jazz Society on October 13th, 2019 at the Rockledge Country Club in Rockledge, FL.

Astronaut, educator, author and musician – Captain Winston Scott has logged over 24 days in space and completed three spacewalks. He is also known as a trumpet player and jazz artist who performs with various Brevard County bands. Among them is the Winston Scott Cosmic Jazz Ensemble.

Ron Teixeira played the keyboards, Al Dodds was on bass, Stan Soloko on drums along with guest artist and vocalist Shyrl “Lady Tandy” Johnson, in addition to some special surprise guests.

Teixeira is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston. For 20 years he performed at jazz venues and as a studio musician in New York City, before returning to his hometown of Cocoa Beach. Dodds has both Bachelor and Master degrees in music from the University of North Texas. Drummer Stan Soloko has performed on cruise ships for many years. All three are regulars at Heidi’s Jazz Club. Jazz vocalist Shryl “Lady Tandy” Johnson plays with several local jazz and blues groups including her own Trio.

Winston Scott is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, naval aviator and NASA astronaut, he currently serves as the Senior Advisor to the President for External Relations and Economic Development at Florida Institute of Technology (commonly known as Florida Tech), where he plays with the university’s Jazz Syndicate and directs its faculty band, TWITCHY. He also composes and arranges music for these and other groups. Additionally, he is a professor of music and professor of aeronautics.

Scott has earned a BA degree in music, an MS degree in aeronautical engineering and has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Florida Atlantic and Michigan State Universities. He has a teaching certificate for music education from the State of Florida and has been inducted into the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity (Professional Honorary Fraternity for men in music). Additional musical credits include performing with recording greats such as soul singer Betty Wright (Grammy, 1972); receiving the coveted Edwin Franko Goldman Award, (a national award presented annually by the American Bandmaster’s Association); and recording with Shryl “Lady Tandy” Johnson and singer Billy Lee.

His many performances include guest conductor for the Stetson University Wind Ensemble; guest soloist for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and guest soloist for the Melbourne Municipal Band. He performs regularly at Florida Tech, at local venues and for cultural organizations such as Foosaner Art Museum and the Space Coast Ballet Company.

Scott also serves on several boards and is a sought after speaker and presenter at media and corporate events locally, nationally and internationally. He has a lifelong commitment to community service. Scott once said in an interview that “I think people who allow themselves to be unidimensional do themselves a disservice.” Captain Winston Scott has certainly done a service to himself, his country and his community.

The Space Coast Jazz Society hosts monthly live jazz music by a variety of different bands each month at the Rockledge Country Club. We also award jazz scholarships for Brevard County students. www.SpaceCoastJazzSociety.org - [email protected]
