Government says that they are doing a favour by eliminating middlemen and giving them an opportunity to sell in other state markets

Farmers are protesting that they are giving free hand to corporates by eliminating mandis


Trader

Government’s argument: The system is safeguarded as the trader can sell only with a valid a licence/registration as provided for in the State APMC Act.

Protestor’s counter argument is that How can a farmer trust a trader of other state under the new law?

Dispute resolution

Earlier to solve disputes farmers could go to the civil court. Now they have to file an application in sub divisional magistrate. Farmers fear that they will be caught up fighting legal battles every now and then with corporate biggies.

Market fee

Currently farmer pays 8.5% to the middle man. Government says that they are reducing the overheads by eliminating middleman. Farmers protest that this is an indirect way of incentivizing corporates.
