Lauki Moong Dal Recipe | Bottle Gourd With Yellow Lentils | Savithri's Kitchen
Ingredients:
Yellow Lentils: 1/2 Cup or 100 gm
Bottle Gourd: 1/2 of Small Bottle Gourd
Oil: 2 TBSP
Mustard Seeds: 1/2 TSP
Cumin Seeds: 1 TSP
Asfoetida: 1/2 TSP
Green Chili: 1
Whole Red Chili: 3 to 4
Turmeric Powder: 1/2 TSP
Salt: To Taste (~ 1 TSP)
Coriander: To Garnish
Method:
Wash yellow lentils 3 to 4 times nicely. Add the bottle gourd pieces and split green chili to the lentils and add water. For 1/2 cup of lentils add 1 cup of water. Pressure cook for 1 whistle on medium flame. Once the pressure is released from the cooker, remove the lentils from the cooker and check if they have cooked well. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add cumin seeds. then add asafoetida and give it a mix. Now add the cooked lentil and bottle gourd mixture and mix well. Add some water according to the consistency that you prefer and mix well. Now add salt and turmeric powder and mix everything well. Cover and let it simmer for a 2 to 3 minutes. Switch off the flame and keep it covered for a while. Garnish with coriander and serve hot! I'm going to enjoy it with rice and rasam (recipe linked below) :)
