The half double crochet is one of my most-used basic crochet stitches. So many crochet projects use this stitch - blankets, baby blankets, cardigans, sweaters.. and so many more. Called the Half Double Crochet (HDC) in US terminology, this stitch is called a Half Treble crochet (HTR) in UK terminology. The height of this crochet stitch lies between that of a single crochet (US) and double crochet (US).

How to: begin with a starting chain of any length. Starting in the third chain from your hook, yarn over and insert your hook. Pull up a loop, so you have three loops on your hook. Yarn over, and pull through all three loops. And that's it - half double crochet complete!
