Gabe is an autistic and nonspeaking teen. One common characteristic that individuals with autism share is anxiety. Gabe has had a comfort item that he holds at all times. It's a rubber belt. He actually holds several at a time. He twists them, taps them, bends them, dances with them, and jut holds them! The problem is that he uses them so often that they have caused his skin to become damaged and cut up on his hands. When Gabe received these items that bring him comfort and allow him to stim freely no matter where he is, he was so happy and seemed very much relieved.
Unfortunately we can't allow him to use these belts for the time being until his fingers heal.
A friend sent him a pack of new fidgets for him to try out. I know nothing will replace the belts he loves so much, but maybe he can find some relief with these new items! So far he likes all of the items especially the fidget spinner, the magnetic rings, and the one that look like a bike gear. I am happy he is willing to try these out!
