Francesco Orelli built the romantic Castello del Sole in 1532. However, it was initially a refuge for Protestant believers in a very Catholic area. Much later, in 1756, there is a reference to the architectural brilliance of the building.

Despite its architectural beauty, by the turn of the 19th century, they used it only as a simple wayside inn. However, in 1945 the Castello del Sole was purchased and remodeled. It provided food for Swiss people in the aftermath of World War 2.
