Duku Highway, namely the Dushanzi District to Kuqa section of China's National Highway G217, is the southern section of National Highway G217 connecting the north and south of Xinjiang. It is also called Tianshan Highway because it crosses the Tianshan Mountains. It starts from Dushanzi District, Karamay City, the oil city of northern Xinjiang, and ends at Kuqa City, Aksu Prefecture, southern Xinjiang, at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and the northern edge of the Tarim Basin.

The Duku Highway is 561 kilometers long, half of which is above 2,000 meters above sea level. The highest point, Tielimaiti Pass, is above 3,400 meters above sea level.

The Duku Highway is a veritable scenic avenue, stretching from the Dushanzi Grand Canyon at its starting point, to the Nalati and Bayinbuluke grasslands along the way, and to the mysterious Kuqa Tianshan Grand Canyon at its end point.

Along the Duku Highway, you can cross the Yilianhabilga Mountain, Borokonu Mountain, Awulale Mountain, Nalati Mountain, Ai'erbin Mountain, Harke Mountain, Yining and Kuqa Basin.

Affected by natural factors such as snowfall and ice in the Tianshan Mountains in winter, traffic control is generally implemented from early November to May or June of the following year, with the closure period lasting up to 8 months.

The Duku Highway has four seasons in one day, showing the magnificent sight of "four seasons in one day, different weather in ten miles" to off-road enthusiasts and self-driving tourists.

In 2019, the total number of tourist vehicles crossing the Duku Highway was 596,000, an increase of 85.39% year-on-year; the number of tourists was about 1.788 million, an increase of 85.63% year-on-year. During peak periods, more than 10,000 vehicles passed through the highway every day.

In recent years, the construction along the Duku Highway has been continuously upgraded. Every year, more than 2 million tourists come to the Duku Highway to experience self-driving tours. In 2021, the maximum number of vehicles passing through the Duku Highway in a single day was 19,000, directly driving the development of tourism along the route.

Starting from 10:00 on June 1, 2024, the Duku Highway will resume traffic ahead of schedule.
