Here, you'll see a tryout of a member of my Nationals team that didn't make the cut. These battles were mainly a test to see which of Venusaur or Chesnaught would be best. Venusaur had great synergy with Charizard Y and could shut things down with Sleep Powder (using a Wide Lens just to be on the safe side), which seemed good...

But it had a few flaws. Firstly, I had to breed this Venusaur for Hidden Power Fire. (I used one without it a while ago and got sick of being walled by Ferrothorns) The problem is HP Fire forbids a 31 IV in both Special Attack AND Speed. That's... really problematic. The best one I got only had around 15 IVs in both. The low Speed meant I had to invest much more EVs in order to hit that magic Chlorophyl number, and the low Sp. Attack.... you'll actually see here. A 31 Venusaur should have beeen able to finish that Garchomp off with Giga Drain. Not doing so was dissapointing.

But that wasn't the real reason I axed Venusaur from the team. No, the real problem was this: I found there were many battles where it woudn't be a good idea to bring Charizard Y, i.e. too many opposing Rock Slide users. The problem I had here was if Drought wasn't present, there was little reason to bring Venusaur. What this meant was if my opponent's Team Preview prevented me from using Charizard, I'd mean Venusaur was out too, meaning I effectively lose two Pokemon from my team instead of just one. That gives my opponent way too big of an advantage right there. (This is probably the reason many Venusaur still run Venusaurite even in Charizard teams, so it can do something when Zard is abscene. My set really doesn't work well without sun though, so I decided against it)
I found Chesnaught was still useful in a lot of situations where Charizard Y wasn't. In fact, often more as it can usually survive opposing Fire moves without Sun up, but with Sun it tends to get OHKOd. Also, Feint turned out to be much better than I anticipated.

So those are basically the reasons why I chose Chesnaught over Venusaur. But enjoy this one match anyway. All I can say about this one was I think that Earthquake crit on Arcanine mattered, as they're usually bulky enough to take one. I was actually really surprised at the OHKO, I didn't really plan for it. Also, Raichu bodyguards Charizard from Manectrics like a boss. So satisfying.
