I wanted to see a specific plane take off before it went to the scrapyard, so I went to try & find a spot about half way along the northern runway at Heathrow.
The sun is always in front of me there and the headwinds were so strong that pilots were using most of the runway to reach the right speed for rotation, which meant I got hit by all of the wake turbulence, which I absolutely loved.
I swear I breathed in so much kerosine that day! To top it off, I only had my little platform to stand on and my view was restricted by just about everything - vehicles, road signs, buildings, lamp posts, traffic lights.. you name it!
Despite all of this, I had a great day and saw some of my favourite planes taking off and later on, landing under some very dark, very back-lit clouds!
