This jump was amazing, my decisions under canopy were not. My mind was focused primarily on closing the distance to the DZ to land. I was nervous about potentially landing off and because of that I didn't pay as much attention to the winds as I could and should have. I decided far too late to hold into the wind and that caused me to drift past the DZ and required chosing a different landing zone. Thankfully I had been thinking about the likelihood of landing off since before getting in the plane and reminded myself that nature doesn't make straight lines and that I needed to pick a spot at an altitude that allowed me to focus on the landing itself. Even in that there was a bit of error. What looked to me like a greener patch of grass in my chosen landing area turned out to be a massive thorn bush. The cold on this jump did have my eyes watering, but I'd argue letting myself get distracted by a bird below me on final had more to do with the lack of any final corrections that could have kept me from hitting the bush. During the jump I was trying to local the other jumper and couldn't find him until both of us were over the DZ. I did identity the aircraft which was flying south of the airport and well away from us.
