We first met Ohshi (they/them) in Harajuku - where they are a well known street style personality - several years ago. In addition to participating in the Japanese street fashion scene, Ohshi is also a popular bartender and DJ at Tokyo subculture events produced by DecaBarZ.

Ohshi loved 1990s Japanese subculture fashion as a child growing up in Hiroshima. Some of Ohshi's favorite style icons from that era included the 1990s kawaii Harajuku fashion goddess Tomoe Shinohara as well the dark Japanese visual kei band Malice Mizer. Unable to explore those fashion interests as a child, Ohshi continued on with their studies, eventually moving to Tokyo to study music and composing.

A chance meeting with another music student wearing the Japanese brand Super Lovers re-ignited Ohshi's childhood love of subculture fashion. Ohshi visited Harajuku to check out the Super Lovers store, and Ohshi's been a regular in the neighborhood ever since.

In addition to their unique fashion sense, Ohshi expresses creativity by composing music, playing piano, and DJing at events put on by the longtime Tokyo performance art subculture group DecaBarZ. Like many people in the Harajuku fashion scene, Ohshi is still figuring out the future, but with so many possible directions forward, it looks bright and creative.

Follow Ohshi on Instagram to hear more of their music and see more of their fashion. You can also ask them questions directly via their social media links above.
