Here at Sarasota Surgical Arts, I offer all of my patients for all of my procedures the availability of doing the procedure completely awake under local anesthesia. And that is for the smartlift, for any of the fat grafting, a transfer, eyelid surgeries, neck-lift surgeries, liposuction, both laser liposuction as well as standard liposuction, and also for any of the fat-grafting procedures, which we do completely under local anesthesia.

Now, the reason why this is possible is because we use a mixture of-- it's called tumescent anesthesia. And we take a patient's body weight, and we strictly measure it to safety standards how much Lidocaine I can use according to your body weight that is safe and effective. But we also add a little bit of epinephrine to that so it constricts all of the blood vessels in the surgical field. And in doing so, we're able to operate in an essentially bloodless field. So, it allows patients to be comfortable, and it allows patients to have the surgery done safely. Now of course, this isn't for everyone. Some people just don't like to hear and feel pressure while they're having this type of procedure. But a lot of people are very, very anxious about anesthesia, more so than the surgery I've found. And because of that, I feel very confident in offering to my patients to do these procedures under local anesthesia completely awake. I've had patients that have driven themselves here to have liposuction, and then driven themselves home. It's not a problem at all.
