In this video we talk about what the min and max memory setting in MS SQL Server does. We talk about what happens when this is configured incorrectly as well as the impact it has on Performance counters. Min and Max memory are very important settings when it comes to memory. One could argue that its the only setting when it comes to memory. This is because of how efficient the Dynamic Memory Management system in MS SQL is. Configuring this setting is easy but it has such a drastic impact on performance that every DBA should take a moment to understand how memory allocation is impacted by this setting. We also talk abou Target Server Memory and Total Server Memory performance counters in this video. A basic example of how to size memory in SQL Server and what the impact of configuring it is on Virtual Machines as well as multi instance servers.
