Punjab Minister for Finance and planning Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday at India Today's State of the State Conclave Punjab said that "the Modi government is civil to us but the Centre and state relations are governed by the Constitution and they [the Modi government] aren't mean to us. Unfortunately, we have not been able to convince them that we aren't only growing food for India, we are also the agents of Food Corporation of India (FCI). When you handle food grains for the country, there's FCI purchases, transportation charges etc. They do compensate the FCI but they don't compensate Punjab. We have lost Rs 18,000 crores, depleted our national resources, poisoned our soil to provide food grains to rest of the country, but this hasn't caught their attention."
